Short answer

Scraper API tools plus prompt-driven AI Studio tools

The main Oxylabs MCP server combines four Web Scraper API tools (any URL, Google Search, Amazon search and product pages) with six AI Studio tools that scrape, crawl, search, map and drive a browser from a prompt. A separate package exposes only the AI Studio tools.

Oxylabs publishes two MCP options: a main server that covers its Web Scraper API and its AI Studio, and a smaller package with only the AI Studio tools. This page explains what each tool does and how to connect it, based on the Oxylabs MCP README and the AI Studio package on PyPI.

Two packages

  • oxylabs-mcp. The main server, MIT-licensed on GitHub, with a hosted version at https://mcp.oxylabs.io/mcp. It includes both tool sets below.
  • oxylabs-ai-studio-mcp. A Python package with only the AI Studio tools: Scrape, Crawl, Browser Agent and Search. Its PyPI listing shows version 0.1.4, released 2 July 2025, and it needs Python 3.10 or later.

For new setups, the main server covers everything the smaller package does.

Web Scraper API tools

Four tools from the README run on the Web Scraper API:

ToolWhat it does
universal_scraperScrapes any URL, with optional JavaScript rendering, geo-targeting and Markdown, HTML or links output
google_search_scraperGets Google Search results, with optional parsing into JSON
amazon_search_scraperScrapes Amazon search result pages, with optional parsing into JSON
amazon_product_scraperGets data from single Amazon product pages

The README says the server can "manage CAPTCHA, and access geo-restricted web data from 195+ countries." For rendering, you choose full JavaScript rendering, HTML-only or none.

AI Studio tools

Six tools run on Oxylabs AI Studio and take a prompt rather than fixed parameters (README):

ToolWhat it does
ai_scraperScrapes any URL with AI extraction, returning JSON, CSV, Markdown or TOON
ai_crawlerCrawls a site from a start URL, guided by a prompt, and collects data across pages
ai_browser_agentControls a real browser from a prompt: navigates, clicks, fills forms and returns the result
ai_searchSearches the web and can return each result's content as Markdown
ai_mapMaps a site's URLs, filtered by keywords or a prompt
generate_schemaBuilds a JSON schema (OpenAPI format) for structured extraction with the tools above

You get the AI Studio API key from the Oxylabs AI Studio site.

Free trial and credits

The README gives two offers:

  • Web Scraper API: a 1-week free trial.
  • AI Studio: 1,000 free credits.

The README doesn't say how many credits each AI Studio call uses or what the Web Scraper API costs per request after the trial. Check Oxylabs' pricing pages before you leave an agent running.

Connect it remotely

The hosted server is at https://mcp.oxylabs.io/mcp. Per the README, it takes credentials as HTTP headers:

  • Authorization, as a Bearer token or Basic auth
  • X-Oxylabs-Api-Token, or X-Oxylabs-Username and X-Oxylabs-Password
  • X-Oxylabs-AI-Studio-Api-Key

In Claude Code, the README's command starts with the line below and adds one --header flag for the Web Scraper API token and one for the AI Studio key:

claude mcp add --transport http oxylabs https://mcp.oxylabs.io/mcp

Copy the full command from the README, since the header values depend on which credentials you use.

Connect it locally

For Claude Desktop, add this to claude_desktop_config.json (GitHub):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "oxylabs": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["oxylabs-mcp"],
      "env": {
        "OXYLABS_API_TOKEN": "<your API token>",
        "OXYLABS_AI_STUDIO_API_KEY": "<your AI Studio API key>"
      }
    }
  }
}

For the AI Studio-only package, the PyPI listing gives:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "oxylabs-ai-studio": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["oxylabs-ai-studio-mcp"],
      "env": {
        "OXYLABS_AI_STUDIO_API_KEY": "<your API key>"
      }
    }
  }
}

Both start with uvx, part of the uv package manager, which the PyPI listing recommends for running the server.

Where it fits

Oxylabs has named tools for Google and Amazon, and its AI Studio tools take a plain-language prompt instead of selectors. The comparison of MCP servers shows it next to Bright Data and ZenRows. For our verdict on Oxylabs' core products, see the Oxylabs review.

FAQ

What is the difference between oxylabs-mcp and oxylabs-ai-studio-mcp?

oxylabs-mcp is the main server. It has both the Web Scraper API tools and the AI Studio tools, and a hosted version at mcp.oxylabs.io. oxylabs-ai-studio-mcp is a separate Python package with only the AI Studio tools; its PyPI listing shows version 0.1.4, released in July 2025.

Is the Oxylabs MCP server free?

The server code is open source under the MIT license. Usage runs on your Oxylabs account: the README says the Web Scraper API has a 1-week free trial and AI Studio comes with 1,000 free credits.

Which credentials do I need?

An API token for the Web Scraper API tools (username and password also work; if both are passed, the token is used) and an AI Studio API key for the AI tools. The README says every tool is listed either way, and a tool called without its credentials returns an error explaining what to set.

What formats does ai_scraper return?

The README lists JSON, CSV, Markdown and TOON. The universal_scraper tool returns Markdown, HTML or links.
